MS 150 Bike Tour - June 4-5, 2011. Katherine Long, Peggy Buckley and Glenn Young celebrated birthdays at the Friday night gathering at Camp Silver Beach. There were some very fast Bees who arrived first at the Camp and at the Finish Line. We recruited 2 new riders, hung out with lots of other teams at the rest stops and dinner. The weather was perfect and we can't wait to go back next year.

Another great Swarming of the Killer Bees on May 21, 2011. We started with a 60 mile ride (some of us did 50) followed by a cookout at Elaine and Marty Cardwell's Hive. Natalie Bare finally received her award for being the top fund-raiser in 2010. You will find pictures of the oldest riders, Elaine and Norm and the oldest and youngest guys, Norm and Aaron. The cookout was visited by an alien, Pat Hurley, but he was so congenial we let him stay. Some folks brought kayaks and we floated away on a 2 hour paddle on the Poquoson River while Marty gave jet ski rides to everyone else. Click on the album below to see all the pictures. Thanks to Jim Mack for taking the camera and getting all those "moving" pictures!

March 26, 2011: We had a great time at this year's first official "Swarming of the Bees" at Glenn and Monique Young's beautiful home in Mattaponi, Virginia. Even though the day was cold, the 18 and 40 mile routes were bathed in sunlight and the chili feast we enjoyed on our return made us think about planning another ride here very soon.

Mike Toole Memorial Ride - May 30, 2010. We gathered at the YMCA where Mike frequently attended spinning class to dedicate 2 bricks purchased by the Killer Bees. Afterward, we biked to the bluffs at Yorktown for a prayer by Mike's Dad and followed up with a visit to the Yorktown Pub for a Bloody Mary (Mike's favorite "after Sunday's ride beverage"). See some photos below..

Killer Bees go Spinning - October 3, 2009
When Mike Toole became unable to accompany the Bees on our rides on the road, he became a regular at the YMCA in Yorktown and quickly made a host of friends. Mel Moss organized a spin class of all Bees and YMCA spinners to show Mike how much we supported his battle against brain cancer. Unfortunately, Mike was unable to come out to spin with us, but we found out how hard this indoor stuff really is. Below are the pictures Mel put in an album for Mike to prove we could be tough, too!

The Killer Bees volunteered to host a rest stop for the MS Challenge Walk on September 12, 2009 along the Tour roads in Yorktown. We had a "killer" good time, as you can see in the photo album below. Thanks to Natalie Bare for organizing the effort. Below, left to right: Mike Bikowski, Peggy Buckley,Sarah Darling, her nephew Joseph, Natalie Bare, Elaine Cardwell and Paul Krieschen. Unfortunately, we don't have a photo of Art Wolfson lending his expertise to the ailments of the walkers since he was stationed at the lunch stop - but he reports that most of the walkers were ready for the event and suffered little foot distress.

Team Killer Bee at the MS 150 - May 30-31, 2009. Check out the photos in the following 3 albums. We had a blast and raised the most money for MS. Some of us met for dinner Friday night at Kelly's Gingernut Pub in Cape Charles. We got together at Camp Silver Beach for the evening program and had perfect weather for both days.

4th ANNUAL CYCLISTS AGAINST CANCER RIDE WAS WELL ATTENDED BY THE KILLER BEES. Queen Bee, Elaine, organized the event. Thanks to our sponsors and 116 riders, we raised $5,000.00 for the American Cancer Society. We had great volunteers from the "Rallying For A Cure" team from Poquoson. Two officers from the Sheriff's Departmen led the 15-milers safely on their route.

What a great turnout for Mike's first group ride after recovering from his surgery. The weather was cool and the winds were brisk. We had a couple of new riders join us today as well as some veterans. Mike was thrilled to be able to get back in the saddle with the gang!! Mike rode strong for someone who hasn't been riding for quite some time. Mike, we look forward to logging many more miles of riding with you in the future. We pray your last radiation treatment tomorrow is the VERY last one and that you continue to regain all the strength you had before. THE KILLER BEES
